Monday Morning Quilters
April 21, 2008 — AngelaIf ever you walked into our church on a Monday morning around 8:30 or 9:00 it might seem like the only activity was in the office. But, if you found your way to the Wilderness Room you would find Zion’s faithful quilters hard at work.
Amazingly, they put together over 300 mission quilts each year. With the help of retired pastor Roger Ose they are able to send quilts literally all over the world. Zion has quilts going to Africa, Russia and Mexico. They also have a Minnesota connection, Howard and Marie Hanson, who have distributed quilts to college students from foreign countries and have taken some to Liberia and Kenya. Can you picture someone from so far away cuddled up in a quilt made by these dedicated women of Zion?
Recently, they have agreed to donate some of their quilts to the Lullaby ministry and Bedding ministry of Love INC (Love in the name of Christ), a local non profit organization that helps match people in need with various ministries housed by 19 local supporting churches. Each of these particular ministries is housed by 2 participating churches.
Our quilters are: Flora Mohring, Maurean Fellger, Doris Henson, Harriet Mooney, Ardis Nystuen, Ruth Baatz, Marlys Gillund, Rosemary Wodkte, Marlys Corhouse and Cheryl Mager. Flora started this group 15-16 years ago meeting at her home. A couple of years ago the quilters started meeting at church where you will still find them quietly following Christ’s example of caring for those in need - one stitch at a time.
